New York Public Library

Description

The Main Branch of the New York Public Library was designed by Carrere and Hastings in the Beaux-Arts style and constructed with Vermont Marble in 1911. The building is a National Designated Landmark and a New York City Individual Landmark. Nicholson & Galloway performed a three-year exterior restoration of all four sides of the building including the following scope of work:

  • 225,000 square feet. of water mist marble cleaning
  • 225,000 square feet of marble repointing with lime mortar
  • 2054 carved marble dutchmen
  • 760 composite marble patches
  • 862 marble balusters replaced
  • 12 statuary groups conserved
  • 2 pediment statuary groups laser cleaned
  • 340 bronze windows and doors restored
  • 30,000 square feet of fluid-applied roofing 
  • 1,000 linear feet of lead-coated copper cornice ledges
