The New York Public Library

Description
Frederick MacMonnies was one of the most prominent American Beaux-Arts sculptors and painters of the 19th Century. Shortly after the completion of the Library, he was commissioned by Carrere and Hastings Architects to carve the Truth and Beauty Fountains which flank the main entrance. The Carrara Marble statues include elaborate Vermont Marble terraced basins below. Unfortunately, the fountains stopped working in the 1980’s due to extensive leakage and deterioration of the pumping and filtration equipment. A generous gift from the Robert W. Wilson Charitable trust allowed the Library to hire Nicholson & Galloway to perform the following work:
- Waterproofing basins with Kemper
- New marble access panels in basins
- New custom bronze light fixtures
- New fountain pump and filtration system
